Here are pics of the custom dash I am creating..

Once I am finished with this, I'll put the rest of the pictures up on this site, but as of 6.1.02 the project is on hold until I reinstall my subs....

Sometime around 4.1.00

Here is a picture of the dash, the way it was when I got the truck
Sometime around 6.1.01

We ripped the vents out of the dash, and took a picture of the EQ display for the stereo system.. Unfortunately I could not find any pictures of the dash when this piece was complete, but I'm sure I have some here some where..
I cut out the EQ molded piece and this is my new project for the dash. Basically I took a 1/8" piece of wood and cut it to fit where the vents would go.

I took a MTX sticker from a box for my subs, cut out the lettering, stuck it to the wood, and cut out the letters with a dremel tool...
using a product called Kitty Hair, we used it to mold the wood to the sides of the dash..

With the EQ display in the dash we used bondo as a base and when the weather went from hot to cold real quick, the bondo cracked and was pretty bad looking... kitty hair is a lot better in hold up to extreme conditions...

after the kitty hair settled, we used a dremel tool to form the sides of the display to give it a smooth look.
Using bondo to fill in the cracks and make it a little bit more easier to sand and make smooth. This will grasp on to the kitty hair better than the wood, and it should take the paint a little bit better.
~~~ PAINTING #1 ~~~ Almost There !!!
we added another coat of bondo, sanded, added, sanded, and now painted it...
after we painted it I noticed that there were some lines where you could see where we used the bondo and where it molded to the dash.. I did some MORE sanding and its going to get painted again on Monday.
I Cut the letters out and made them look good.. I did this with a normal file, some parts where the bondo was hard, I used a dremel tool and made a space big enough to get a file in there.
Another coat of filler paint... it's the same type of stuff to use on a bed liner.. Using it here for texture.
Once the paint dried started sanding again.. This time with 400 grit to get it to a final point before painting a final time...
aww crap !!!! look at the white arrow, and then look at the next picture.
I guess I was too rough with the sand paper and the paint started lifting up.. It got to a point where it was just peeling off of the dash piece.
This is going to make it so I have to strip a good section of the paint off and repaint/sand/etc.etc. Again a couple of times to blend in with the rest of it.
Tried painting it one last time to see if that corrected the peeling problems... but it didn't
MORE TO COME. STAY TUNED !!!!
